As the reigning 2021 Class 3A diving state champion, Discovery Canyon’s Victoria Sanders entered the 2021-22 high school swimming season as the clear senior favorite to repeat. Sanders, however, set out to take things a step further in her final high school campaign.
At the 2022 state championships, Sanders trailed Holy Family’s Mary Kate Cavanaugh by a daunting 41.65 points going into her final dive. With all eyes on her, Sanders launched into the highest-scoring dive of the day and was awarded a score of 59.80. Not only did Sanders repeat as champion, she set the Class 3A diving state record with an amazing score of 513.25.
Now a freshman diver at Oakland University, Sanders was voted Diver of the Year by the coaches at last year’s high school state championships and CHSAA 3A Diver of the Year.
