SPORTSWOMEN OF COLORADO CAMP SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

HISTORY

Sportswomen of Colorado is committed to promoting educational opportunities for girls in sports. The Girls Camp program was launched in 2001 thanks to seed money donated by the Pepsi Bottling Group of Denver. Summer sports camp scholarship opportunities have been awarded to girls residing in Colorado who are at least 8 years of age through 13 years of age. In the program’s inaugural year, 22 girls enjoyed the opportunity to attend a summer sports camp. Over the years the Sportswomen of Colorado Camp Scholarship Program has sent over 850 young female athletes to the sports camp of their choice.

In 2001, Helen M. McLoraine made a pace setting endowment gift of $100,000 to support the Girls Camp Scholarship Program. As a result of this gift, the program continues to enjoy a strong financial base annually. Additional funding is supported through generous donations by individuals and corporate sponsors.

WHO WE SERVE

Scholarship opportunities will be provided to girls residing in Colorado from ages 8-13 to attend a summer sports camp. Special consideration will be extended to girls who are from low-income backgrounds where the student is generally on free or reduced lunch at school.

SPORTSWOMEN OF COLORADO SPORTS CLINICS

Sportswomen of Colorado began sports clinics in the Fall of 2022 as a way to provide additional opportunities to young kids around the state of Colorado. The first-time pilot clinics brought Colorado Christian University (CCU) and Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver) coaches and players to 65 students in the Mapleton Public School District and Jefferson County Public Schools. Coach Diane Thompson and her CCU team worked with Mapleton’s fifth graders at Welby Community School and the sixth graders at Monterey Community School. MSU Denver’s team and Coach Tanya Haave worked with Jefferson County fifth graders at Little Elementary.

Considered a success in 2022, more clinics will begin popping up at Elementary Schools around the state and in all sports.
