The most recent story angle trends towards a woman running a high school boys program, which is unique, yet not the entirety of what makes Shannan Lane impressive. The lady loves the game. She played the game. Now she loves to coach the game. And she keeps proving that she is really good at it.
In March of 2022, Lane and her Pueblo South boy’s basketball team completed a postseason run to the Class 4A state championship game. Just three players on the roster were listed six-foot or taller. They made it to the final employing a rapid & relentless pace of play. They were disciplined. They could shoot. They could pass. They could defend. They were part of a signature system Shannan Lane has been winning with for many seasons.
2022 was Lane’s second completed season coaching those boys at Pueblo South. They reached the Final Four both years. If we factor in her previous job with South girl’s basketball, Shannan has been a head coach in six championship games in 13 seasons. With girls. With boys. With young people who will forever benefit from being around a Sportswoman like Shannan Lane.
