In order to bring a new sport to a high school community, you need groundbreaking talent like Saylor Swanson. Swanson is the quarterback of the state championship winning Arvada West Flag football team and has a cannon for an arm. Still in its three-year pilot program, girl’s flag football is growing in popularity here in Colorado due to players like Saylor. In its two years of existence, the Arvada West team has recorded just one loss. Avenging that loss this past season in the state title game. Swanson accounted for 5 touchdowns, including a 30 yard bomb, plus an interception and was awarded the Broncos Gold Belt Award Winner aka Player of the Year. Swanson lit up the state sheet and dazzled the untrained eye to what could soon be a sanctioned sport in CHSAA. This athlete could give some of the best boys’ football players a run for their money, which is why we are honored to present this trailblazer, Saylor Swanson, with the flag football player of the year award
