Sam Thacker

Year: 2023
Award: Lacrosse, College
Location/Affiliation: University of Denver

  • First-Team All-American
  • Big East Defensive Player of the Year
  • Finalist for the most prestigious individual Tewaaraton Award

Among the national recognition a college lacrosse athlete can earn, Sam Thacker actually repeated in 2023. Those honors included unanimous selection as big east defensive player of the year, first-team All-American, and finalist for the Tewaaraton award – which is her sport’s most prestigious individual award. Thacker earned each of those honors for a second consecutive season. And then consider the new accomplishments she added to her resume and her program’s history. In 2023, thacker was named the division one defender of the year – the first to receive that award for the University of Denver. And her second straight first team All-American selection was also a first for her DU team that earned its first-ever NCAA final four appearance – which included Sam as a selection to the NCAA championship all-tournament team. So tonight we’re happy to repeat ourselves, because Sam Thacker is an elite winner – again – being celebrated by Sportswomen of Colorado.
