Northridge Elementary Students Cheer on DU Women’s Basketball

Jan 28, 2023

A group of 50 students from Northridge Elementary School in the St. Vrain Valley School District recently attended the University of Denver women’s basketball girls and women in sport day, sponsored by Sportswomen of Colorado. The University of Denver provided the tickets and entertainment as the kids were able to cheer on the ladies to a 69-60 win over Kansas City. The event, which was held at the University of Denver’s Ritchie Center, aimed to empower and inspire young kids to pursue college and their passions in sports and physical activity.

The day began with three members of the DU women’s basketball team talking with the students about what it takes to be successful then they cheered on the ladies to a win before finishing the afternoon with autographs. Principle of Northridge Elementary, DeAnn Dykes said, “Thanks to a partnership with Sportswomen of Colorado and University of Denver, we were able to send a bus load of 4th and 5th graders to a women’s basketball game in Denver.  What an amazing opportunity this was for our students! Thank you!”  The DU women’s basketball team will return to Northridge Elementary in the spring to host a satellite basketball clinic for the students.
