  • D-II National Champion

Faced with an early deficit in the final match of her collegiate wrestling career, Marissa Gallegos set her mind to reaching the goal she set five years earlier. Marissa scored seven unanswered points to become the first women’s wrestling national champion in Colorado Mesa University history, completing a perfect 28-0 season at 123 pounds.

Now the Mavericks’ assistant coach after graduating with scholar All-America honors in May, Marissa was a four-time wrestling All-American. One of the program’s first signees in 2018, she compiled a 94-8 career record and was a four-time, top-three national placer. Marissa spent the entire 2022-23 season ranked No. 1 in her weight class, winning 16 matches by technical fall and eight by pin, with only four matches decided by decision. A former Colorado high school state champion at Jefferson High School, Marissa Gallegos is our College Wrestling Athlete of the Year for the third straight year, earning her a place in the Sportswomen of Colorado Hall of Fame.
