When it comes to pioneering women’s wrestling in Colorado, our next honoree has paved the way. Marissa Gallegos stands 4’11’’ and a 123 lbs but don’t let the numbers fool you. Her mat presence is bigger than any other collegiate wrestler as the number 1 ranked undefeated wrestler this season.
2022 was an impressive year for Gallegos who became a 3x Collegiate Wrestling Coalition All-American, an honor that was a first in school history. After becoming the first in program history to win the 2022 WCWC Southwest Regional Championship, she finished 3rd at the 2022 National Championships. The attention she garnered led her to attend a US Senior National Team training camp and Gallegos spent the summer as a resident athlete at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO.
Set to graduate in May 2023, Gallegos has earned a 3.9+ GPA over her 5 years at CMU while taking intensive biology and human anatomy classes for her biology degree as she desires to pursue a career in physical therapy. She also became a 3x NWCA Scholar All-American for her hard work in the classroom.
It’s no surprise this is the second Sportswoman of Colorado award that Gallegos is receiving having also won in college wrestling in 2021.
