Since 2000, Colorado Mesa University has not had a soccer championship. That is until this past season where Lila Dere took the RMAC by storm and led the CMU Soccer team there. Dere’s playing style that drew attention of many. By the end of the season and RMAC championships, Dere tallied 15 goals, leading the RMAC. As a redshirt freshman, Dere was named the Spring RMAC Freshman of the Year and would later claim the 2021 RMAC Player of the Year in the Fall. Also in the Fall, Dere was First-team All-South-Central Region by both D2CCA and US Coaches. Other accolades Dere acquired are: Fall 2021 CoSIDA Academic All- District 6, Third Team CoSIDA Academic All-America, and a school record for most goals in a game (four against Regis University).
