Challenging herself to attempt the biggest skills she possibly could on Colorado high school gymnastics’ biggest stage, Lakewood Lauren Burt wasn’t going to allow a step out of bounds and a fall to keep her from her ultimate goal – the Class 5A all-around championship.
Burt overcame a rough start to her junior state meet and shined on the vault and uneven bars to claim the all-around championship as the ninth Jeffco gymnast in the past 10 years to do so.
Two days later, Burt returned for the individual event finals and won three out of the four. And she did it impressively, posting a score of 9.875 on the vault, a 9.85 on the floor and a 9.75 in on the uneven bars.
Burt’s all-around dominance earned her First Team All-State honors and the CHSAA Class 5A Gymnast of the Year award.
