Kaylie Berens

Year: 2019
Award: Gymnastics, High School
Location/Affiliation: Pomona High School, Arvada

  • 2-time Individual All-Around State Champion
  • Beam & Vault State Champion
  • Led Team to Fifth Consecutive 5A State Title

Kaylie Berens and her Pomona High School gymnastics team made history in 2019 when they became the first big-school classification team to win five straight state championships. Individually, Kaylie led the way, finishing her senior season medaling in all five events.

But, just getting back to the state meet for her senior season was Kaylie’s first big hurdle. The year before, she was injured during warmups at the championships and couldn’t compete. Instead, she cheered her teammates on to a state title from the sidelines. Her coach marveled at Kaylie’s unselfishness and humility. “During her high school career, it was always about putting the team first, no matter what the circumstances.”

In all, Kaylie Berens took home three championships from the 2019 state meet and placed in the other two events. She won the individual all-around title for the second time. She won both the vault and the balance beam. And, she took second on the uneven parallel bars and third in the floor exercise. That’s the way to wrap up a high school career!
