Kathy Jones Heck was the starting center for the All-American Red Heads, the female equivalent to the Harlem Globetrotters, from 1936-1986. The Red Heads were the first professional women’s basketball team that broke social barriers. The team played in small, rural towns all the way to Madison Square Garden and Chicago Stadium. The Red Heads played more than 200 games per season while touring 49 states, Canada, and the Philippines. The Red Heads are members of the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts.
