Family ties to gymnastics run deep in the Hutchinson family. Jessica Hutchinson’s mom, Silvia Hutchinson (Mitova), was a Bulgarian elite gymnast & Olympian, as was her grandmother, Maia Mitova. The third-generation gymnast was never pushed into gymnastics yet spent many hours in her parents gym beginning at age one. Hutchinson was coached by her parents until age 10, and by her grandparents at age 11.
A dual citizen of the U.S. & Bulgaria, Jessica followed in the footsteps of her Mom and Grandma and competed elite for Bulgaria. She represented Bulgaria at the 2016 European Championships and finished 10th on vault. Hutchinson contemplated going for the Olympics and become a third generation Olympian, but a torn ACL made that difficult. When she decided to go to college instead, the storied gymnastics program at DU became her new home. And for the first time she was coached by someone other than by family. It’s worked out well for the reigning Big 12 Gymnast of the Year & Big 12 All-Around champion. Please welcome, Jessica Hutchinson our winner for college gymnastics.
