In basketball, the assist is an art form all to itself. It means giving up the ball so a teammate has the opportunity to score. Jaelynn Smith is an absolute artist when it comes to assists. She plays for Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver) and was the only player in NCAA Division II to average at least 15.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, 6.2 assists, and 2.1 steals.
Jaelyn set the MSU Denver single-season assists record with 180 and tied the single game assists record with 14. She is MSU Denver’s all-time leader in assists with 553. She also completed the Roadrunners second career triple double against Chadron State with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 14 assists.
In the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC), her career assists total added up to put her at 2nd best on the all-time list. In 2019 Jaelyn Smith was her team’s point guard, leader, and was virtually unstoppable with the ball in her hands.
