To some, finishing second in a race would be an accomplishment. To others, it’s fuel to a fire. For Emma Stutzman, a runner-up finish at the 2022 Cross Country State Championships fueled an astonishingly fast spring season on the track. At the Track and Field State Championships, the Pomona senior peaked. She kicked off the championships by setting a sizzling pace in the 3200-meter run, en route to winning her first-ever state title. Just over two hours later, she set a new school record in the 800- meter run, finishing second in the race.Emma wasn’t don’t yet, though, as she finished the meet by winning an epic dual in the 1,600-meter run. She crossed the finish line in a new Colorado state record time of 4:39.94, marking the fastest 1,600-meter ever run on Colorado soil. Emma concluded her career by being named the Gatorade Colorado Girls Track and Field Player of the Year. Now, we are excited to honor Emma Stutzman as our High School Track and Field award winner.
