While serving in the United States Army, Elizabeth Mark sustained an injury resulting in an amputation below the knee. Marks was not to be deterred and turned to swimming. Marks participated in the 2016 and 2020-2021 Paralympic. In Tokyo, Marks would capture three medals in the S6 category, athletes with a physical impairment. Marks won gold in the 100m backstroke, a silver in the 50m freestyle, and a bronze in the 50m butterfly. Between her two visits to the Paralympics, Marks would have a total of five medals. As for other international achievements, Mark won gold in the 100m backstroke int the 2019 World Championships.
