850 kids. 7 clinics. 2 months. Here is what happened.
I’m Abbey. I run Camps, Clinics, and Community Outreach. I started here as an intern three years ago, so I’ve watched this organization work up close for a while now. This spring was an exciting and engaging one where we were able to impact and touch the lives of so many children and watch young athletes lead within their communities.
March through May: 7 clinics, 6 school districts, 850 students. Eight hundred and fifty kids who got to move, compete, and be coached by women who love sport.
Flag football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, lacrosse. For many of these kids, a first shot at all of it. Thanks to our donors, we didn’t just show up. We brought equipment:
- Footballs and dodgeballs
- Soccer balls and cones
- Volleyballs and pool noodles
- Badminton rackets and tennis balls
- Lacrosse equipment and more!
One of the best moments this spring: sitting with students and talking about what it actually takes to be a healthy athlete. We talked about the importance of sleep, nutrition, training, academics, and building healthy habits both on and off the field. The students were incredibly engaged, and it was so meaningful to share parts of my own running journey while also hearing about their experiences and goals. I didn’t want it to end. That’s what these clinics are. Not just the drills and sports, but the real conversations and interactions between the student athletes leading and the younger students participating!
Another special moment this season was having one of our donors attend a clinic in person. It was incredibly impactful for both our team and the students to have supporters there to see the energy, excitement, and direct impact of these clinics firsthand. Having the opportunity to attend was so impactful, strengthening the connection between our mission and the people who make this work possible.
Centennial Elementary. When college athletes walk into a gym, something shifts. The quiet kid in the corner is suddenly sprinting and shouting and asking ten questions at once. We are building something real here and I feel it every single visit.
What teachers said:
“It was super fun and inspiring for the kids.”
“Thanks for having us out! Our girls are still raving about how much fun it was!”
“Just wanted to give y’all a big shout out and THANK YOU for the visit yesterday. The girls went back to class super pumped!”
What the kids said:
“Can you come back tomorrow?”
“This was the best PE class ever!”
Eight words. That’s the whole mission.
We’re already building next year’s schedule. More students, more districts, more gyms. None of it happens without the people reading this. Please reach out to: campsandclinics@sportswomenofcolorado.org if you want to be involved for the 2026-2027 school year!
